What's new
Screen Ruler is a working project. This page lists what has changed, newest first, so you can see what's different since your last visit.
- New measuring guides: everyday objects with known sizes, identifying screws, bolts and drill bits, inch fractions to millimetres and why a browser can't tell how big your screen is.
- Added this page.
- Added an illustrated how-to guide and an accuracy and calibration guide.
- Added a privacy page and rewrote the about and contact pages.
- The introduction and guides now work with JavaScript turned off, and the ruler recovers if a script loads slowly or a third-party service fails.
- The device dialog now closes with the Escape key and returns focus to the button that opened it.
- Faster, more reliable start-up, and preferences keep working when browser storage is blocked.
- Experimental BIG RULER AR mode, which uses the camera on compatible Android devices to measure distances in a room.
- Calipers that are dragged off screen now show a marker at the edge so you can find them again. Larger, easier handles.
- Screen-reader labels throughout the controls.
- The ruler and calipers stay put when you rotate the device.
- Shared calibrations: if you calibrate a device that isn't in the list, you can choose to share its dimensions so the next person with that phone doesn't have to.
- Redesigned settings panel.
- Tablet presets and the bubble level.
- Smarter device matching and an about page.
- First release: an on-screen ruler with calipers, a protractor, a grid and nearly 400 phone display presets.
